Getting started

What is TextDrop?

TextDrop is a Windows utility that lets you type and dictate on your phone, then send the text into any Windows app at your current cursor position. It’s for people who type long text — AI prompts, documents, emails — and would rather use their phone’s keyboard or dictation than a PC keyboard.

Does TextDrop do speech recognition?

No. TextDrop doesn’t recognize speech itself. It lets you use the dictation that’s already built into your phone, or simply type. Whatever text your phone produces can be sent to Windows.

Do I need to install anything on my phone?

No. Your phone just needs a web browser. There is no companion app to install.

Is TextDrop available now?

Yes — TextDrop for Windows is live on the Microsoft Store. Download it free and try for 30 minutes; the one-time purchase (US$4.99 early-adopter) unlocks the full license. The macOS version is coming — leave your email on the homepage and we’ll notify you.

Connection

Which phones work with TextDrop?

Any phone with a web browser on the same local network as your Windows PC — iPhone or Android.

Does it require the same local network?

Yes. Your phone and Windows PC need to be on the same local network. TextDrop doesn’t route text through the internet.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no account, no sign-up, and no cloud service. You scan a QR code and you’re connected.

What if my phone’s camera can’t scan the QR code?

The TextDrop window also shows an address you can type into your phone’s browser.

Using TextDrop

Which Windows apps can receive text?

Any app with a text field or editor — Word, email clients, chat apps, browsers, code editors, and AI tools. Text is inserted at your current cursor position.

Can I review the text before it reaches Windows?

Yes — that’s the point. The text stays on your phone while you check and edit it. It reaches Windows only when you send it.

Which keyboards and input methods work?

Any keyboard, swipe input, or dictation method your phone supports works with TextDrop.

Trial and license

How does the 30-minute trial work?

You can try TextDrop for 30 minutes, starting after your first text is successfully sent to Windows. The timer pauses when you close the app.

What happens when the trial ends?

Sending is locked and TextDrop asks you to purchase. Your text stays on your device; nothing is uploaded or deleted.

How much does TextDrop cost?

It’s a one-time purchase — no subscription. US$4.99 early-adopter price during the launch period, US$9.99 regular price after. You can try TextDrop free for 30 minutes before purchasing.

What does the license include?

A one-time purchase covers you on unlimited personal devices. It includes free updates throughout TextDrop 1.x and discounted upgrades to future major versions.

Do I need an activation code?

No. TextDrop for Windows activates through the Microsoft Store with your Microsoft account. If you reinstall or move to another PC, the license is restored automatically.

Can I get a refund?

TextDrop is a one-time-purchase product and does not provide a separate refund service. Refunds follow the policy of the platform where you purchased TextDrop. You can try TextDrop free for 30 minutes and purchase it only if you’re satisfied.

Privacy

Is any text uploaded or stored?

No. Text goes directly from your phone to your PC over the local network. There is no cloud storage of your text.

Does TextDrop collect telemetry?

No. The app does not collect device information, usage counts, connection records, or crash reports.

Where is my email stored if I join the waitlist?

Your email is stored with our hosting provider (Cloudflare) and used only to send launch notifications. It is not sold, shared, or used for advertising. You can ask to be removed at any time via support@textdrop.chat.
